MEDICATION

HOWEVER there are a number of children whose complaint does not require close nursing and who are not limited in their school activities, but who may need medication in particular circumstances – for example asthma sufferers or children with certain allergies.  These children may attend school and the school will arrange for their medication to be available

PROVIDED:

bullet A. The Principal or Deputy Principal is approached and satisfactory arrangements can be made
bullet B. The medication is given to Mrs Johnson (Infants) for safekeeping. This will prevent loss or contamination and will ensure that the correct dose is given when required.
bullet C. An indemnity form is to be completed by parent for student.
bullet D. Children needing long term medication will need to have the appropriate forms completed by their doctor before medication can be administered.

Asthma sufferers in Years 3 to 6 can manage their own medication (after consultation with the Principal or Deputy Principal).

The only medication to be in student possession during the day is asthma medication for students in Year 3 to 6, if necessary. All other medication approved by the Principal or Deputy Principal will be kept in the office (Primary) or in the Infants Sick Bay.

Asthma sufferers in Kindergarten to Year 2 can have medication under the supervision of Mrs Johnson as outlined above.

If your child is sick at school
The school is not equipped to care for ill children. Parents are therefore requested not to send sick children to school. Children who become sick at school should tell their class teacher, who will direct them to the Primary or Infants sick bay. Should the child be unfit for class after a rest in sick bay (many children seem to recover after a short rest), the parents will be contacted and requested to collect the child. Should the parent not be available, medical attention may be sought.

Infectious and Communicable Diseases
An Infectious Diseases pamphlet is available from the school office outlining infectious diseases, symptoms and infectious periods.

If your child contracts chicken pox, German measles, glandular fever, hepatitis A or B, HIV, influenza, measles, meningitis, mumps, TB, whooping cough, conjunctivitis, head lice, impetigo, ringworm, scabies or slapped cheek syndrome he or she will not  be allowed to return to school until the infectious period has elapsed.

Parents with children starting school in Kindergarten are required to present an IMMUNISATION CERTIFICATE at the time of school enrolment. Students who are not fully immunised will be excluded from attending school if there is an outbreak of any the diseases for which immunisation is available.
