SCHOOL & PLAYGROUND RULES
 

Pupils are required to
 
bullet Abide by the rules of the school and accept the discipline of these rules
bullet Attend school regularly, be punctual and present notes to explain absences
bullet Follow directions of teachers and others in authority
bullet Complete all required work carefully and to the best of their ability
bullet Behave in a responsible, polite and courteous manner
bullet Behave in a manner that shows respect for themselves and for the rights and feelings of others
bullet Behave in a manner that keeps themselves safe at all times
bullet Respect and care for school buildings, school property and the property of others
bullet Observe the general standard of dress and uniform requirements of the school
bullet Accept their responsibility as members of the community in which they are involved.

Playground Rules
 

General Playground Rules
 
bullet Loitering in the vicinity of, or playing in the toilet blocks is forbidden
bullet Running is not permitted on verandas and in hallways
bullet Football (touch football only) and soccer can be played on grassed areas only, (infants bottom terrace and primary top terrace) provided the playing of such games will not interfere with other games.
bullet Balls are to be retrieved from outside the school grounds only at teacher’s direction
bullet No hard balls are to be used near buildings or on assembly area
bullet Balls or other items lodged on buildings, are to be removed by the General Assistant at a suitable time
bullet Riding of bicycles and scooters in the playground is prohibited
bullet All play must cease at the bell to end each recess and lunch. The children then go to the appropriate lines to await the teacher’s direction
bullet Children are not permitted in classrooms, corridors or vestibules unless accompanied by a teacher except to deposit school cases and loose outer clothing when they come to school. Loitering is not permitted
bullet Taps and basins in vestibules are for use during lesson times under teacher supervision. They are not to be used for drinking
bullet During Terms 1 and 4 the rule “No Hat, No Play” is to be enforced. Those children without hats are to sit in a quiet, shady area in the playground in which they are playing.
bullet Teachers are responsible for leaving the area they are supervising clean at the end of their duty.

Areas considered “Out of Bounds”

bullet Both car parks.
bullet The front lawns unless accompanied by a teacher or with a teacher’s permission for a specific purpose.
bullet The area behind the portable buildings.
bullet The bike racks except for those who are depositing or collecting their bicycles
bullet Children are not permitted in classrooms, corridors, etc unless accompanied by a teacher
bullet The staffroom and administration building unless in an emergency or when permission has been granted by the teacher on playground duty
bullet Inside the Canteen is out of bounds at all times
bullet The walkway through the BBQ area can be used as a quiet area
bullet Dirt area between demountable Year 3 and Year 5 buildings.

Grass Area
 
bullet Keep off verandahs
bullet Keep out of trees
bullet Sitting only on seats – no jumping or standing
bullet Keep away from blue ramp and library steps
bullet Computer Room corridor is OUT OF BOUNDS
bullet Kinder Red patio used for quiet activities
bullet Keep off play equipment before school

Ronald Street

bullet Play safely in undercover area
bullet Football & soccer games to be played on Top Terrace (1 soccer ball game on grass)
bullet Don’t go behind hall
bullet Ask teacher on duty before going to get a ball
bullet Out of bounds until after 9am
bullet Keep off the brick planter box

Canteen Area

bullet Stand in line quietly and sensibly
bullet Do not buy for other children
bullet Do not let other students in line
bullet Remember you manners
bullet Speak loudly and clearly
bullet Know what you want before you are served
bullet Stay in correct area to be served – Primary/Infants
bullet No balls allowed in Canteen area
bullet Leave Canteen area after buying
bullet Keep off the blue wall
bullet No kicking games in blue wall area

Assembly Area

bullet BBQ area is a quiet area only
bullet The area behind demountables and in front of Year 4 buildings is OUT OF BOUNDS
bullet No running games allowed in weather shed – handball only
bullet No playing or sitting in hat rooms or Year 4 corridor
bullet Handball, netball and basketball can only be played in this area
bullet No playing in toilets

Asphalt

bullet No playing or sitting in hat rooms
bullet Running games and games with bats are to be played on grassed areas
bullet Don’t play near the toilets and stairs

Keep away from storage buildings and recycling bins

Top Terrace (Years 3 – 6)

bullet Keep away from:
bullet Playground equipment
bullet Behind brick storage buildings
bullet Soccer nets are not for climbing
bullet Keep out of the trees
bullet Mr Edmunds to get balls that go over the fence
bullet A variety of games can be played in the cricket nets

Bottom Terrace (Kindergarten – Year 2)

bullet No playing or sitting in hat rooms
bullet Keep away from dividing wall
bullet Playing behind and under the demountables is OUT OF BOUNDS
bullet No playing on steps between terraces
bullet Ask a teacher before leaving the playground to get a ball
bullet Keep out of trees

Bicycles:

bullet Bicycle riders are to enter and leave the school via the Fitzroy Street gate.
bullet Bicycles are not to be ridden in the school grounds except when entering or leaving the grounds when they may be ridden sensibly to the Fitzroy Street gate.
bullet Bicycles are to be stored in the racks provided.
bullet Pupils depositing bicycles in the bicycle rack must leave the area immediately. No loitering is allowed near the bicycle area.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES & PROCEDURES


Teacher responsibilities
 
bullet On time for duty
bullet Do not leave duty area until relieved.
bullet Remain mobile.
bullet Arrange to swap duties when can't make it.
bullet Common sense at all times.
bullet Do not let children out of class unsupervised (messages are excepted).
bullet Teachers know exactly what time and day they have playground duty.
bullet Are punctual knowing what it is like waiting to be relieved when they are late.
bullet Teachers are required to be at school and to sign on no later than 8.40am.
bullet Teachers are required to remain for meetings after school

Wet Weather

bullet All children are to remain in their classrooms. Each building is to arrange suitable supervision. In the event of approaching rain, a rain bell of 2 rings will sound, indicating a prompt return to the classroom. The Executive Teacher will be responsible for this decision
bullet It is necessary for all teachers to realise the need for allowing children outside to play.

The K– 6 Playground policy necessitates consistency.

 Variation from routine school times

bullet No children to leave school early without permission from a parent or caregiver
bullet Parents must report to the Fitzroy Street office to obtain a note of early departure
bullet Parents are informed of variations to supervision in respect of changes to routine (eg. sporting fixtures, school fetes etc).
